CIRCA 1880-1900,BEAUTIFUL FIGURAL ROUND LACE TABLECLOTH W/FILET LACE,BURANO LACE. A wonderful round tablecloth measuring approx. 68". The design and workmanship are both quite superb.There is a large round Filet lace at the center, with classical ladies and cherubim with four large shaped vignettes containing different dancing ladies in classical dress with floral garlands and ribbons celebrating the Spring and Autumn seasons.The lace on this cloth is excellent, with many designs that are raised and three dimensional . Spring and also Harvest time were common themes in hand made Italian linens. This cloth has everything! there are large baskets overflowing with florals and there are assorted fruit and birds in the design.This is quite a joyful cloth... The ladies are all quite graceful, refined and beautiful. In Italy going back through ancient times, Spring or Primavera was a time for celebration as was the Harvest time and these rituals can be found in many of Italy's art . A celebration of Life and the bounty that we are granted from the earth. Traditions like this are wonderful, because they help to remind us of this bounty. This cloth is even more beautiful than the pictures.
