MAGNIFICENT AND RARE 19THC.BRUSSELS DUCHESSE LACE ELLIPSE CLOTH W/FLORAL BASKETS. I have only see ONE item like this in almost 45 years.. and that is after many many lace pieces that have come my way.This is truly a magnificent offering and so very rare. An item like this could only have been made for a person of great wealth. Whether it was a member of Royalty, or a wealthy industrialist or a Aristocrat... this item was certainly a important and great commission .The lace not only has the finest thread, but also has the highest workmanship and the design is marvelous.There are lovely floral vignettes containing ornate large baskets overflowing with flowers and the flower swags have pretty ribbons tied at the top of the design.What I also find exceptional are the beautiful and very elegant lilies and the fine vines and shaded leaves in the design. Measuring approx.120-125 by 34-36" at widest part. I can only say that this is truly a wonderful work of art!In person even more beautiful because you can really see the quality of lacework...the skill of the lacemakers. In good condition, this seems unused. This is Brussels Duchesse lace at it's best!
