CIRCA 19THC. ORNATE BRUSSELS LACE HANDKERCHIEF. A large Brussels lace handkerchief measuring approx.19". The lace is very fine and the design quite elaborate with meandering florals and leaves and has a gossamer extremely fine linen center. This is part of a collection of laces purchased recently, the ladies family came from a prominent old New England family. The owner travelled extensively and collected many laces from Europe during the late 1800's-1900's. In mainly good strong condition, the center has a tiny opening and a couple of small repairs done in their time and in truth are a work of art in themselves because the flax is so fine.. one wonders how they even did the repair in those days on such a fine lawn. The handkerchief is strong and has it's original cream patina.
