CIRCA 1500-1600's,VENETIAN LACE CHALICE COVER W/BIRDS. A rare early scalloped Venetian lace with birds in the design. Lace in the earlier centuries were considered as valuable as diamonds,rubies and pearls etc. Through the centuries lace pieces were kept , repurposed and used in different ways. I am not sure when this might have been made into a chalice cover, perhaps early or later in date. A rare early lace from the Grand Maison Collection. Measuring approx.8 1/4" by 8 1/4". In good condition, a few natural small storage spots, the lace just needs a gentle wash. A very nice piece for the early lace collector.
