ORNATE 19THC. HONITON LACE CHRISTENING GOWN. A rare and stunning gown made of Honiton lace and the finest silk muslin with embroidered sprigs, quite a ethereal and gossamer fabric that one rarely sees on gowns. This gown was part of a very good collection that had been collected for many years. The lady had exquisite taste and quite rightly a gown as rare as this would have found it's way into her collection.The bodice is almost completely covered in Honiton lace with lace also on the sleeves and wings.The skirt is heavily embellished with the lace with wider borders, ruffles and Honiton lace wings. A rare and beautiful gown. In mainly good condition, a few minor repairs . The gown comes with a petticoat that might have been added at a later date.
