CIRCA 19THC.ROMANTIC POINT DE VENISE PLACEMAT SET W/COURTING COUPLES. A wonderful set! There is one long banquet table runner and 12 matching placemats in this exceptional lace set. The table runner measures approx. 75" by 19" wide. It is ornate and has wonderful scrollwork florals ,vines and leaves with raised cordonnet throughout the lace.There are two large shaped vignettes measuring approx.11"by 8" on the edges of the runner.The design has a pastoral scene with lady dressed in period costume and two gentlemen courting? and what seems like a lamb on one edge. The other vignette has two females in period dress with a gentleman courting in a pastoral scene. There are also two other vignettes containing florals, ribbons and bows. There is raised cordonnet on many of the flowers, scrolls and leaves and also lovely fine fillings in the costumes. The lace has it's original gentle cream color and seems as if it was unused or rarely used. A few tiny opens that are insignificant , otherwise in very very good strong condition.This offering comes from one of the very best collections I have come across.The collector had a eye for the very best in antique lace and linens.
