CIRCA 1900, ELABORATE FIGURAL OVAL NEEDLELACE TABLECLOTH W/CHERUBS, CHARIOT. A stunning large oval Italian Needle Lace tablecloth ! The cloth has large heart shapedvignettes with assorted designs, a gentleman serenading a lady, a woman tilling her garden, a gentleman seeding his garden while the lady tills her garden, a woman carrying wheat while the gentleman carries his sickle and finally a lady and gentleman in their garden watering their flowers. In between these designs there are large scale cherubs that are drawn by goats and filled twith the harvest from the season. A prevalent theme in Italy, that was used in many of their linens was either the celebration of Spring or the times of Harvest.There was a celebration of the changing seasons and the gifts that were given. The design is stunning and the workmanship is excellent on this wonderful tablecloth. Measuring approx.100"-110" by 92"-95". I believe this cloth originally came from the " Fox" estate, a collection of the very best of linens from the estate of the owners of Metro -Goldwyn- Mayer during the golden age of Hollywood. In very good condition.
