CIRCA 1880's,RARE AEMILIA ARS RETICELLA TABLE RUNNER W/ANIMALS. I love this item!! It seems to be from the lacemakers in the Aemilia Are Society or definitely. some other important lace school in Italy at the time. The Aemilia Ars Society lacemakers used lace designs from the 16-17THC. Many of their pieces are in good museums as the calibre of work was certainly exquisite and fine. This linen runner measures approx. 38" long with a extra 1/2 "to 1" Van Dyke edging, the width is approx. 17". The design is extremely elaborate and of course the workmanship is quite superb. There are large insets of Reticella lace with animals in the designs and there are numerous bands of Reticella lace and embroidered small florets also in the table runner. This seems unused and might have been darker in color ,some is a lighter cream and some a darker shade of ecru, this was probably from storage. The item of course can be laundered but I actually like it as it is.The items from this estate were all purchased in Italy as the lady travelled there extensively during the time.A wonderful item for the collector.
