CIRCA 1800's, GRACEFUL LAWN HANDKERCHIEF W/APPENZELL EMBROIDERY, I love the luminous quality of these early fine lawn handkerchiefs. It is not possible to resist such a gossamer flax spun thread. Elegant and refined in every respect with superb tiny Appenzell whitework embroidery in one corner. Measuring approx. 20". There are four animals, dogs?lions/ sphinx?, on lavish raised plinths with trees and florals in the design. Tiny perfect embroidery on this beautiful handkerchief.In good condition, seems rarely used.
