CIRCA 1760, EXQUISITE AND LUMINOUS SILK SPITAFIELDS SILK BROCADE PANELS

CIRCA 1760's, EXQUISITE AND LUMINOUS SILK SPITAFIELDS SILK BROCADE PANELS. Absolutely my favorite items, I truly love Spitafields silk brocades. The silks from Spitafields shines and is truly luminous. The designs were always so very elegant and refined. The French Huguenot silk weavers of Spitafields in London came to England feeling persecution because they were French protestants. They came in their thousands and it is said that the word "refugee" truly came into the English vocabulary. Not only do I love the silk which must have been divine and so beautiful in candlelight that was used in the times, but the designs are truly exceptional. Many of the clothing was made for the aristocracy and the Court, beautiful silk dresses, waistcoats, elaborate hangings etc. There are five pieces in this lot ,the measurement for length are 44",37",36"21" and 20". At one time these parts were probably part of a gown. Perfect for the early silk collector. In good strong condition.
