One can only imagine the lovely lady who owned this fan. how elegant and refined and I am sure extremely wealthy to have had this in her possession. There is so much detailed work in the fan. We start with the hand painted designs. There is a large vignette filled with a courting couple wearing ornate and beautiful clothing. The gentleman is bringing flowers to the lady and in the scene there is a ornate balustrade. landscaped trees at the back and lovely painted small flowers. Her bustle dress has dainty pink ribbons and she carries a pretty parasol. The other painted vignettes have water scenes, pastoral elements and florals. The Brussels lace is quite superb ,trees are made with the laces there is a detailed  bridge, large florals, a plinth made with fine needle lace with a urn overflowing with flowers also made with Brussels lace. The guard stick and sticks have gilt and silver floral swag engravings,One stick at the back has top part missing, the part that does not show. The bottom stick that shows needs only to be attached to the fan.and a small gilt wear on guard stick Measuring approx.14" long.
