CIRCA 19THC. EXQUISITE BRUSSELS POINT DE GAZE LACE BERTHA COLLAR

CIRCA 19THC. EXQUISITE BRUSSELS POINT DE GAZE LACE BERTHA COLLAR. A wonderful Brussels Point de Gaze lace collar in every single way. The design is absolutely brilliant, with detailed work that surpasses many of the Point De Gaze lace collars that I have come across. It is quite grand, with beautiful large flowers  with raised cordonnet, grand flourishes of elaborate scrollwork with tiny assorted Needs lace fillings everywhere. with hand made ground and scattered Point De Esprit. There are small flowers  all along the top of the collar with additional florals all along the gently scalloped edges.Measuring approx.40" by 5" wide. The design is superb but what really impresses me is the quality of the workmanship, it is detailed, precise and quite amazing. This lace comes from a very good collection. The family were originally from England but made there way to the United States in the early 1600's and made their way to New England where they have a long lineage, many being involved in state and national politics. The collar is in very good condition, it has it's original patina and seems unused.
