CIRCA 19THC. ORNATE LARGE BRUSSELS POINT DE GAZE LACE TRIANGULAR SHAWL.Circa late 1860's,a impressive and large Point De Gaze lace triangular shawl measuring approx.96-97 inches across the top part and 55 inches at the widest part.Centimeters 246.38cm by 139.7cm. The design is quite ornate with large floral bouquets and elaborate florals, leaves and scrollwork with scattered Point de Esprit. The design covers practically all of the net ground. The shawl is in mainly good strong condition, the lace itself is very strong..but there are some areas of damage. The bottom of the shawl has a 6" missing part, this could have some Brussels lace added to it so that if done well it would not be so apparent as the shawl is quite voluminous..There is one other 3" area. There are three areas that must have had damage so Brussels lace was inserted. They measure approx.2" by 4", 6" by ^" and 5" by 4".There are a few seams .My thoughts is that since the shawl is in such good condition otherwise, perhaps someone skilled could easily correct issues. It would be nice if this could be kept as a shawl , if not I guess a dress designer could use in some way.
