CIRCA 1800's,SILK BOOK COVER W/EMBLEMS OF IMMORTALITY.A fine early card case or book cover with hand embroidered designs. The symbols of immortality are hand embroidered on the case,the inner part a picture of a acorn on one side and the acorn open on the other side with a symbol of a human heart.The case seems to have been designed to reflect the ideas of immortality and transcendence, images that have been used throughout the centuries.  The outer part of the case has a image of a caterpillar on one side and on the front of the case a image of a large butterfly. Beautifully worked.In mainly very good condition, parts of the braid  are missing and some needs reattaching.
