MAJESTIC 19THC.BRUSSELS POINT DE GAZE LACE PANEL

MAJESTIC 19THC.BRUSSELS POINT DE GAZE LACE PANEL. Circa 1860, this outstanding Brussels Point De Gaze lace has finished edges on both sides and measures apprx.58" by 18-19" wide. This is one of the most lavish pieces I have come across, the design is exuberant and decorated with masses of roses, many of which have lovely three-dimensional petals. The hand made ground is almost entirely covered with ornate scrollwork, fine detailed vines and shaded leaves and numerous Needlepoint fillings and delicate Point de Esprit scattered throughout the lace. The top of the border has tiny delicate flowers all along the edge and the sides and scalloped edges are filed with roses, flowers and leaves. There are more than  sixty-five roses with raised petals and numerous other roses with raised Needlepoint in the center.  In good condition, a couple of minor tiny openings , a line age stain, absolutely minor..The design and workmanship are a work of art! This is lace at it's very best, both designer and lacemaker were outstanding. The lace seems rarely used.Provenance, The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
