CIRCA 19THC. ORNATE CHRISTENING GOWN.Circa late 1800's, a pretty christening gown with a unusual shaped bodice.Insertions of Valencienne lace alternate with Swiss whitework embroidery with three pretty ruffles at the bottom of the gown. There are wings that make their way from the bodice and around the neckline down each side of the panel. One age spot at the bottom of the gown at back and repair at back opening, otherwise very good strong condition.Longer inner sleeves were added when a baby was christened in the winter, easy to remove, as the gown is much prettier without them. This gown has a important provenance as it has come from the estate of a important family who have resided in the Hudosn Valley.
