FINE HANDKERCHIEF W/ROYAL PROVENANCE. This is a handkerchief that is purported to have been designed by order for Queen Amelie of Portugal by the Portuguese painter and artist Signor Bordallo Pinheiro in 1902, with a pattern influenced supposedly by the Manuelino period.The undulating seaweed design in each corner was one of the themes used in that time as were other elements in connection with the sea.A royal crown and initials  beautifully embroidered  with lovely swags of flowers, roses and fine fillings.Measuring apprx. 16 1/2". There is damage on this handkerchief. (Item #ALH39)
