EXQUISITE APPENZELL LACE 170" BANQUET TABLECLOTH W/OPERATIC THEMES,PROVENANCE. Circa 1900.A rare and wonderful Appenzell lace banquet tablecloth measuring approx. 170.75" by 71" W. The tablecloth has eighteen ornate vignettes with operatic themes and embellished throughout  with Drawnwork and raised satin stitch embroidery. The operatic scenes include "Madame Butterfly" by Giacomo Puccini, Georges Bizet "Carmen", Richard Wagner's "Tristan and Isolde", "Le Nozze di Figaro" and "Cos fan Tutte " Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giuseppi Verdi ;" Rigoletto", "La Boheme" Giacomo Puccini , "Faust", Richard Wagner's "Rienzi,der Letzte der Tribunen among others. This tablecloth has a good provenance, it comes form the estate of William Holden the famous American actor who won a Oscar for the film "Stalag 17" , "The Bridge on the rRver Kwai ". He also starred in other important films , "Picnic" and "The Wild Bunch" . He was one of the biggest stars during the 1950's-1960's. In very good condition, a couple of tiny minor openings in drawnwork. This tablecloth is superb in every respect.A good item for the serious collector or Museum.
